Collies are a very popular breed in Hong Kong, but did you know that 70% of this breed has the multi-drug resistant gene called MDR1?

This statistic is also widely represented in the USA, France and Australia.  Dogs affected by this mutation can have some serious adverse reactions to some drugs including ivermectin. 

Ivermectin works by causing neurological damage to parasites like mites and lice.  But dogs affected by MDR1 are unable to flush out the toxin, particular in their brains. The use of Ivermectin in these dogs can cause neurological damage and even death.
