Lame? Do not take it lightly.

What is happening when your animal is in pain and what to do about it

Root Causes

First, there is a root cause to the pain.  Here are some common culprits:

  • Injury
  • Obesity
  • Lack of General Physical Fitness
  • Structral Issue (Hip Displaysia, Floating Knee Cap, etc...)

Here's what animals do to compensate for pain:
  • Hide the pain
  • Using other body parts to take on the weight to reduce pain and lameness appears
  • Start losing muscle on the painful (atrophy)
  • Due to shifting of weight into other areas, there are worn and tear or pain in the other areas (back, other legs, tail area, etc) as well.
Therefore, lameness should not be taken lightly.  Things can go really badly if progressive or degenerative problems develop.  Thankfully, there are many ways to tackle this problem.  Natural ways to manage pain in your pet(s) are:

1. Knowing what is the cause first (see your vet) and understand the different treatments available.
2. Providing NATURAL pain killer to support the body. You cannot do anything else without stopping the pain, it is key!
 3. Lose weight immediately for overweight pets
4. Providing natural anti-inflammatory diet and supplements to support the body.
5. Regular gentle exercise, start with a 10 min walk, then gradually add 10 more min to it every week.  There are also under water exercise that can help as in water take away the weight, animal would be more willing to use the muscle in a balance way.  No matter what exercise you do, it has to be gentle and doing nothing can be worst.
 6. Regular correctly done massage can also do wonders.
